Commonly Used Effective Folk Remedies for Acne

Acne
Acne is a common dermatosis in adolescence. Initially, lesions appear as pinhead or sesame-sized spots, matching skin color or red, with dark heads gradually forming at the tips, allowing yellow-white sebum plugs (comedones) to be squeezed out, leaving depressed scars. This condition often results from improper diet, overconsumption of spicy and greasy foods, generating dampness and heat that stagnate in the skin, or wind-heat in the lung meridian scorching and obstructing the skin. Commonly used effective single remedies and folk formulas include the following.
[Formula One]
Pinellia tuber, white attachment, chrysanthemum leaves, windproof, white芷, talc each 15g, soap pod 10g. Grind the six ingredients into fine powder. Steam the soap pod until soft, remove the membrane, mix with the powder, and make into pills for rubbing on the face morning and evening.
This formula expels wind and clears heat, suitable for acne and freckles. It originates from "Yong Yi Da Fang."
[Formula Two]
Red adzuki bean 20g, fine cinnamon 6g, ephedra 3g, honeysuckle 10g, alisma 8g, poria 15g, plantain seed 8g, yeast 15g, safflower 3g, licorice 6g. Decoct into tea, one dose daily, and use the liquid to wash the affected area twice daily, morning and evening.
This formula comes from "Yunnan Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Issue 10, 1989, functions to eliminate sores, suitable for acne.
[Formula Three]
Poria 30g, raw sanguisorba 15g, red peony 10g, Phellodendron 15g, dandelion, madder root each 10g, kochia fruit, honeysuckle, banlangen each 15g. Decoct and take orally, one dose daily.
This formula clears heat and toxins, activates blood circulation, and removes dampness, suitable for acne patients.
[Formula Four]
Ginkgo seeds as needed. Wash, split open, extract juice, apply frequently to the affected area, reapply when dry, until juice is exhausted, consume 2–3 seeds daily.
This formula detoxifies, drains pus, smooths acne, and improves skin texture, suitable for acne patients.
[Formula Five]
Sulfur and rhubarb in equal amounts. Grind both ingredients into fine powder, mix with cold boiled water, and apply to the affected area.
This formula comes from "Home Remedies," treats acne.
[Formula Six]
0.5mg viper bile, 500g snow cream. Mix thoroughly. Each morning and evening, first wash face with warm water, dry, then apply and rub onto affected areas.
This formula reduces inflammation and inhibits bacteria, dissolves sebum, lightens pigmentation, and relieves itching, suitable for acne. The formula originates from "Liaoning Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Issue 8, 1984.
[Formula Seven]
60g fresh bitter melon root. Crush finely into powder, mix with fermented rice water to form a paste, store in a porcelain bowl. Apply before bedtime after washing the face.
This formula clears heat and resolves stasis, suitable for acne.
