Traditional Chinese Medicine for Premature Graying Hair
It is generally believed that premature graying is due to declining bodily functions, deficiency of qi and blood, and insufficient nourishment ascending to the head, resulting in gray hair. It usually starts from the neck and gradually spreads across the entire scalp, representing a physiological change associated with aging. The formation of gray hair mainly depends on the amount of pigment granules in the cortex and medulla of the hair. A higher concentration of pigment granules results in black, lustrous hair, while fewer granules lead to dull, white hair. Traditional Chinese medicine attributes this condition to deficiency of essence and blood, as well as qi stagnation and blood stasis. Internal herbal remedies include:
1. Angelica root 12g, White peony root 12g, Ligusticum root 10g, Prepared rehmannia root 12g, Ginkgo seed 5 pieces, Polygonum multiflorum 9g, Mulberry leaf 10g. Decoct and take once daily.
2. Fresh rehmannia root 15g, White peony root 15g, Red peony root 12g, Cortex moutan 12g, Lycium root bark 12g, Taxillus branch 12g, Green tangerine peel 9g, Cyperus rhizome 12g, Polygala root 12g, Night-blooming cereus vine 12g, Albizia bark 12g. Decoct and take one dose every night.
3. Wash and dry black sesame seeds, stir-fry gently until cooked, grind into powder, mix with an equal amount of sugar, store in a bottle, and take two spoons twice daily with warm water.
4. Cook black sesame seeds and rice into porridge; consume regularly.
5. 500g black beans, add a little salt, steam and sun-dry nine times each, then store in a bottle. Take twice daily, 6g each time, consume regularly.
6. 50g walnuts, 50g goji berries, 500g small or large black beans, 60g Polygonum multiflorum, 50g prepared rehmannia root, 50g cornus fruit. First boil goji berries, Polygonum multiflorum, prepared rehmannia root, and cornus fruit with water; extract juice, then continue boiling until walnut meat becomes soft and fully absorbed by black beans. Remove and dry, then consume. Take twice daily, 6–9g each time, on an empty stomach in the morning and evening.
