Formula Name: Yi Qi Gu Chong Tang
【Function and Indications】
Function: Tonify qi, lift and consolidate Chong and Ren meridians. Indicated for menopausal and adolescent dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
【Prescription Composition】
Astragalus membranaceus 30 g, Atractylodes macrocephala 10 g, vinegar-fried Bupleurum chinense 10 g, charred mugwort 10 g, herb of crane 10 g, licorice 10 g, Codonopsis pilosula 15 g, charred flos sophorae 15 g, angelica 15 g, stir-fried Dipsacus asper 15 g,升麻 4 g, decoct and take orally.
【Diagnostic Adjustments】
For heavy bleeding: add charred human hair residue and charred palm fiber, each 10 g, charred plum 5 g;
For qi deficiency: replace Codonopsis with red ginseng;
For blood deficiency: add charred raw Rehmannia glutinosa 20 g, donkey-hide gelatin 10 g;
For blood heat: add moutan bark, stir-fried Scutellaria baicalensis, scorched Gardenia jasminoides, each 10 g;
For blood stasis: add charred Polygonum aviculare, Rubia cordifolia, each 10 g; for qi stagnation: add fragrant fritillary, lotus node, lotus receptacle, each 10 g;
For chronic cases: add 5 g of Sanjishi powder (dissolved), cuttlebone, baiji, each 10 g, deer antler frost 20 g.
【Clinical Efficacy】
Treated 290 cases of menopausal and adolescent dysfunctional uterine bleeding: 286 cured. 25 cured after 2 doses, 170 cured after 3–6 doses, 91 cured after 11–16 doses.

【Comment】
This formula follows the principle of strengthening the body’s foundation, combining stopping bleeding with clearing the source. It heavily uses Astragalus to tonify qi, lift and control bleeding; supplements with Bupleurum and Cimicifuga to elevate clear yang; Codonopsis and donkey-hide gelatin tonify qi and nourish blood; Crane herb and charred flos sophorae stop bleeding. The entire formula effectively strengthens the body and controls bleeding, achieving a remarkable success rate of 99%. However, post-bleeding menstrual status is not specified.
