【Function and Indications】
Function: Tonifying kidney yin, clearing heat and eliminating dampness. Indicated for ovulatory uterine bleeding.
【Prescription Composition】
Sheng Di 12g, Qi Zi 12g, Shan Yao 12g, Bai Shao 12g, Gan Cao 6g, Mo Han Lian 12g, Huang Bo 12g, Ku Shen 12g, Shi Lian Zi 12g, Wu Zhe Gu 12g, Huang Cao 12g, Dang Gui Tan 9g, Ji Guan Hua 9g, Gan Cao 6g, decoct and take orally.

【Comment】
Ovulatory uterine bleeding is often due to imbalance between kidney yin and yang, with yin deficiency and yang excess, leading to false fire invading the Dai meridian, scorching body fluids, or damp-heat descending and injuring blood vessels. Treatment should primarily focus on nourishing kidney yin while clearing deficient fire in the kidney, strengthening yin to restrain yang. Chronic damp-heat in lower jiao may damage kidney yin, so treatment combines nourishing kidney yin with clearing damp-heat. Liu’s formula uses Sheng Di, Qi Zi, Shan Yao, Bai Shao to primarily nourish kidney and replenish yin, supplemented by Huang Bo—clearing heat without drying and damaging yin. Other herbs are added accordingly. The entire formula nourishes without greasiness, clears heat without dryness, and consolidates without stagnation.<Uterine>
