Persistent lochia after childbirth refers to lochia continuing for over 20 days without stopping. The cause is disorder of Chong and Ren meridians, abnormal blood and qi circulation. However, clinically it may be classified as qi deficiency, blood heat, or blood stasis. Effective traditional remedies are mainly as follows.
[Formula One]
Tuoli Cao 30 grams, 10 eggs, 30 grams red sugar. First boil Tuoli Cao (if unavailable, substitute with Dangshen 30 grams, Huangqi 60 grams), filter out residue, use filtrate with red sugar and eggs to boil until eggs are cooked. Eat 2–3 eggs daily, can be prepared again after consumption.
This formula treats incomplete lochia due to postpartum qi deficiency.
[Formula Two]
Renshen 10 grams, one clean Wugujī, a little refined salt. Soak Renshen until soft, slice, place inside chicken cavity, put in clay pot, add salt, steam over water until chicken is tender. Eat meat and drink broth, two to three times daily.
This formula treats incomplete lochia due to postpartum qi deficiency.
[Formula Three]
100 grams lotus juice, 20 grams sugar. First extract juice from fresh tender lotus root, refrigerate. Then mix sugar into juice, drink cold.
This formula treats incomplete lochia due to blood heat.
[Formula Four]
Xianhecao, Yimucao each 30 grams, 10 grams red sugar. First concentrate the two herbs, filter out residue, take filtrate, add red sugar, boil for 1–2 bubbles, then consume. Take two to three times daily.
This formula treats incomplete lochia due to blood stasis.
[Formula Five]
Xiaoji (whole plant), Yimucao each 60 grams. Wash both, boil together with water, filter out residue, re-boil until thickened, then consume.
