Treatment Methods for Pediatric Rickets

Pediatric rickets
Pediatric rickets is a systemic disease characterized primarily by impaired bone growth and development, muscle relaxation, restlessness, and excessive sweating. The etiology includes congenital insufficiency, improper feeding, concurrent illness, inadequate care, insufficient sunlight exposure, leading to spleen and kidney deficiency, soft bones, or deformities. Commonly used remedies and prescriptions are listed below.
[Formula One]
Radix astragali 30 grams, schisandra fruit 3 grams, pork liver 50 grams, pork leg bone (with marrow) 500 grams,
First crush the bone marrow, combine with schisandra and astragalus, boil in water, then simmer gently for 1 hour. Filter out bones and residue, slice the liver and add to the broth to cook until done. Add salt and a little monosodium glutamate for seasoning. Eat the liver and drink the soup. One dose can be consumed in one meal, take regularly until recovery.
This formula is suitable for pediatric rickets mainly presenting spleen and kidney weakness.
[Formula Two]
Fresh chicken meat 500 grams, green chili pepper, scallion, ham, garlic each 50 grams, lard 250 grams, soy sauce 20 grams. Remove skin from chicken, clean thoroughly, cut into dice. Heat lard in wok, when oil temperature reaches 50°C, briefly fry chicken, remove and reserve 25 grams of oil, discard remaining oil. First stir-fry garlic slices, then green chili, ham, and scallion, add chicken back to wok, pour in soy sauce, add one spoonful of meat broth, thicken with starch, add monosodium glutamate and a little sesame oil.
This formula helps prevent childhood rickets.
[Formula Three]
Deer antler 100 grams, processed aconite slice 30 grams, two pig hooves. Cut deer antler into thin slices, wash pig hooves clean, all three ingredients boiled together over low heat until slightly boiled, season and consume.
This formula is suitable for children with poor development, soft bones, delayed walking, and unfused fontanelles.
[Formula Four]
Raw chestnuts 500 grams, rock sugar 250 grams. First boil chestnuts in water for half an hour, cool down, peel off skins, place in bowl and steam for 40 minutes. While still hot, mash chestnuts into paste with a knife, mix with rock sugar, then shape into flat cakes on a plate—delicious and nutritious food suitable for regular consumption by affected children.
Regular consumption of this formula is effective in treating pediatric rickets.
[Formula Five]
Turtle shell (ventral shell of turtle) as needed. Soak turtle shell in clean water for 3 days, changing water daily. Scrape off dirt, place in clay pot, add abundant water, simmer over low heat for 8–10 hours daily, repeat for 3 days, then dry and grind into fine powder. Take 1 gram each time, 2–3 times daily, swallow with warm water.
This formula effectively prevents and treats pediatric rickets.
[Formula Six]
Eggshells as needed. Wash eggshells clean, bake until dry, grind into fine powder, sift through fine sieve. For children under 1 year old: 0.5 grams per dose; for 1–2 years old: 1 gram per dose; twice daily.
This formula can be used to prevent pediatric rickets.
[Formula Seven]
Water snails, soy sauce, vinegar as needed. Clean water snails thoroughly, boil in boiling water, extract meat and dip in seasonings to eat—can be cooked and eaten regularly.
This formula treats pediatric rickets caused by calcium metabolism disorder.
[Formula Eight]
Pork spine or leg bone 150 grams, red radish 200 grams. Wash both ingredients, boil together into soup for consumption.
This formula is suitable for pediatric rickets caused by spleen and kidney deficiency.
[Formula Nine]
Placenta powder 10 grams, vinegar-fried fish bone 50 grams, fried eggshell 20 grams, rock sugar 30 grams. Grind into fine powder, take 0.5 grams each time, 3 times daily, long-term use recommended.
This formula is suitable for pediatric rickets caused by kidney qi deficiency.
[Formula Ten]
Phoenix embryo bone (wine-fried until red), raw rehmannia root, sour jujube seed (wine-soaked, skin removed, stir-fried until fragrant), white poria, dried cinnamon bark, windproof herb, angelica root, ligusticum root, eucommia root, each in equal amounts. Powder the herbs, make into pills the size of hemp seeds using refined honey, take 5 pills each time, swallow with wine or kumquat decoction.
This formula originates from Zhu Xiang's "Comprehensive Prescriptions for Universal Relief," suitable for pediatric rickets.
[Formula Eleven]
Chinese yam 15 grams, oyster shell 15 grams, raw turtle shell 15 grams, black sesame seeds 15 grams, eucommia root 9 grams, cooked rehmannia root 9 grams, poria 9 grams, prepared polygonum multiflorum 12 grams, cornus fruit 6 grams, raw white atractylodes 6 grams, western codonopsis 6 grams, whole angelica 6 grams, epimedium 3 grams, 3 large red dates. Decoct and take orally, or grind into fine powder, mix evenly, take 4.5 grams each morning and evening with warm water. Additionally, decoct 9 grams of stir-fried astragalus root and 5 large red dates into a concentrated liquid, consume all at once daily.
This formula comes from "Essentials of Clinical Chinese Medicine," suitable for pediatric rickets.
[Formula Twelve]
Astragalus root 10 grams, dodder seed 10 grams, white atractylodes 10 grams. Decoct and take orally. Prepare 200 ml of decoction, store in bottle for later use. Take 10 ml each time, 3 times daily, course lasts 2 months.
