Pediatric Vomiting: Various Treatment Methods

Pediatric vomiting is characterized primarily by regurgitation of milk or food from the stomach through the mouth. This condition commonly results from overeating, gastric heat, gastric cold, liver qi invading the stomach, or fright-induced qi reversal. Commonly used clinical folk remedies are as follows.
[Formula One]
Fresh white radish 500 grams, honey 150 grams. Wash the radish, cut into small pieces, boil in boiling water until soft, then remove and drain off excess water. Dry in sunlight for half a day, then place in a pot with honey, simmer gently until well mixed, cool, and store in a bottle for later use. Generally consumed after meals.
This formula is suitable for vomiting due to overeating.
[Formula Two]
Godfrey's herb (Shenqu) 15 grams, cloves 1.5 grams. Combine in a medicinal cup, pour boiling water over, and drink as tea.
This formula is suitable for vomiting caused by overeating.
[Formula Three]
Fresh ginger, vinegar, and rock sugar in appropriate amounts. Wash and slice the ginger, soak in vinegar for 24 hours. Meanwhile, take three slices of ginger, add rock sugar, and steep in boiling water for a moment, then drink as tea.
This formula is suitable for pediatric vomiting.
[Formula Four]
Dried tangerine peel 3–5 grams, glutinous rice 50 grams. Dry and grind the tangerine peel into fine powder. Cook glutinous rice with water in a clay pot to make a thin porridge, add the tangerine peel powder, cook briefly until thickened, stop heating when porridge is thick. Consume warm twice daily, one course lasting 5 days.
[Formula Five]
Coarse millet 100 grams, fresh tender cucumber 300 grams, fresh ginger 10 grams, refined salt 2 grams. Peel and core the cucumber, wash, and slice thinly. Wash the rice. Wash and crush the ginger. Add 1000 ml of water to a clay pot, add rice, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer slowly until rice is soft, then add cucumber slices. Continue cooking until soup thickens and a layer of rice oil appears on the surface. Add salt for seasoning, serve as a meal.
This formula is suitable for summer-heat-induced vomiting and diarrhea.
[Formula Six]
Loquat leaf 10–15 grams (30–60 grams if fresh), glutinous rice 100 grams, fresh reed rhizome 60 grams, a small amount of rock sugar. First, wrap loquat leaf in cloth and boil together with fresh reed rhizome (washed and chopped). Strain out residue, then combine with glutinous rice to cook porridge. After porridge is ready, add rock sugar and cook briefly.
This formula is effective for vomiting due to gastric heat.
[Formula Seven]
Bamboo茹 (Bamboo Shavings) 30 grams, reed rhizome 30 grams, 3 slices of fresh ginger. Boil in water, extract juice, and drink as tea.
This formula is suitable for vomiting and hiccups due to gastric heat.
[Formula Eight]
High-quality ginger root 15 grams, glutinous rice 50 grams.
First, decoct the ginger root, filter out residue, collect the liquid, then add rice to cook porridge. Consume on an empty stomach.
This formula is suitable for vomiting caused by gastric cold.
[Formula Nine]
Lean mutton 500 grams, garlic 30 grams, green onion and ginger each 5 grams, refined salt and sugar each 3 grams, cooking wine 5 milliliters, soy sauce 3 milliliters, flour paste 5 grams, monosodium glutamate 2 grams, sesame seeds 10 grams, 2 walnuts, sesame oil 10 grams, vegetable oil 500 grams (actual consumption 25 grams), sufficient dairy broth. Wash the mutton, cut into neat chunks, wash green onion, chop into sections, crush ginger, roast sesame seeds, peel garlic and mash into paste. Boil water, add ginger, green onion, and mutton, blanch until cooked through, remove, cool, then marinate with salt and cooking wine for 1 hour. Steam over high heat until tender. Remove, cool slightly, cut into strips measuring 4 cm long and 2 cm wide. Heat vegetable oil in a wok, fry the mutton strips until dry, remove. Leave a little oil in the wok, sauté green onion and ginger until fragrant, add soy sauce, cooking wine, sugar, dairy broth, garlic paste, mix flour paste into sauce, pour into wok with mutton, reduce sauce over high heat, discard green onion and ginger, add monosodium glutamate, sprinkle sesame seeds and sesame oil, stir evenly, serve as a meal.
This formula is suitable for vomiting due to spleen-stomach deficiency-cold and reversed stomach flow.
[Formula Ten]
Fructus Citri (Fo Shou) 10 grams, fresh ginger 2 slices, appropriate amount of white sugar. Boil first two ingredients, extract juice, mix with white sugar, warm and consume.
This formula is suitable for vomiting caused by spleen-stomach qi stagnation.
[Formula Eleven]
Fresh potato 100 grams, fresh ginger 10 grams, fresh orange juice 30 milliliters, Fructus Citri (Fo Shou) 20 grams. Juice the potato, ginger, and Fo Shou, mix with fresh orange juice, stir well, warm and consume once daily.
This formula is suitable for vomiting due to liver qi invading the stomach.
[Formula Twelve]
Gastrodia elata 9 grams, Uncaria rhynchophylla 12 grams, Hematite 15 grams, lotus starch 10 grams, appropriate amount of sugar. Wrap Gastrodia elata, Uncaria rhynchophylla, and Hematite in cloth, decoct in water, strain out residue, pour hot decoction over pre-cooked lotus starch, add sugar to taste, consume in one dose. One dose per day, continue for 4–5 days.
This formula is suitable for vomiting caused by fright-induced qi reversal in children.
