Dietary Remedies for Bronchial Asthma
【Folk Remedy One】One-third fresh ginger, two-thirds yam (peeled, not exposed to water), grind into paste. Mix with an equal amount of flour until thick and smooth. Apply before bedtime onto a long cloth or form into a pouch, place on the chest while sleeping. Remove the next morning. Repeat daily for seven days to achieve lasting cure.
【Folk Remedy Two】One ounce fresh ginger, finely chopped and crushed to extract juice. Mix with three qian white mustard seeds, add a little alcohol and blend into a paste. Wrap the paste in gauze, use cotton balls soaked in the mixture to rub the acupoints Lung Yu, Dazhui, and Zhongfu. Rub each point for ten minutes, until local warmth is felt. Alternatively, cut two layers of gauze into chess-piece-sized squares, dip in the paste, and apply to the three acupoints for about one hour. Remove if pain occurs, ensuring no blisters form.
【Folk Remedy Three】For acute bronchial asthma, take one bowl tofu, two ounces maltose, half a cup raw radish juice. Combine and boil once, divide into two doses daily. This remedy is effective for both "salt asthma" and "phlegm-fire asthma."
【Folk Remedy Four】Three to four qian roasted ginkgo nuts (shell removed), boiled with water, add a small amount of rock sugar or honey, consume both the nuts and broth.
【Folk Remedy Five】Four qian hawthorn leaves, three qian perilla seeds, seven ginkgo nuts. Boil all together with water, divide into two warm doses daily.
【Folk Remedy Six】One pumpkin (turban squash), chop finely, mix with equal amount of maltose (malt sugar), add a little water, cook in a clay pot until very soft. Strain out residue, reduce the juice further, then add two liang ginger juice (about one pound of pumpkin juice mixed with two liang ginger juice). Take one spoonful (about five qian) daily, two to three times, dissolved in hot water.
【Folk Remedy Seven】For tracheitis-related asthma, use two to four chicken gallbladders (one for children). Dry the bile, mix with sugar, take twice daily for five days—a course. This method also treats asthma caused by whooping cough.
