Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula for Pediatric Pinworm Disease
Common internal and external treatments are used in traditional Chinese medicine for pinworm disease; here only internal treatment is introduced, while external methods are detailed in the section on external Chinese medical therapies.
Pinworm disease manifests as pruritus around the anus, restless sleep, and more severe cases may present with irritability, insomnia, poor appetite, pallor, weight loss, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, redness around the anus, vulvar itching in girls, enuresis, frequent urination, etc. Thread-like worms may be seen in feces under normal circumstances, and during deep sleep at night, adult worms can be observed crawling out from around the anus.
Treatment principle: expel parasites and relieve itching. Formula: Pinworm Powder: Quisqualis seed and rhubarb, in a ratio of 8:1, ground into fine powder. Take 1–1.5g each time, three times daily, before meals. One course lasts 5–6 days, and can be repeated for 1–2 courses. For lower-jiao damp-heat, internal administration of Atractylodes, Phellodendron, Sophora, Chinese wild chrysanthemum, and Kochia scoparia may be used.<Pinworm disease>
