Bone-Strengthening and Waist-Strengthening Formula 13
Giuliao (Coix seed) 100 grams, yeast appropriately, glutinous rice 500 grams. Grind giuliao into powder, mix with glutinous rice to make porridge, cool down, add yeast appropriately, ferment into rice wine. Alternatively, use hot infusion method: place giuliao in a silk bag with appropriate amount of white wine, steam over water for half an hour, then soak for several days. Take 20–30 milliliters each time, twice daily.
Giuliao has a sweet and bland taste, slightly cool in nature, slightly descending and diuretic, thus able to promote urination, remove dampness, benefit joints, and relieve foot swelling. Its sweet taste tonifies the spleen; a strong spleen nourishes limbs and promotes blood circulation. After processing into wine, its ability to circulate meridians is enhanced. Ancient texts state this formula strengthens the spleen and stomach, removes wind-dampness, and strengthens tendons and bones. It is suitable for conditions involving wind-damp obstruction in meridians, joint pain, heaviness, limited limb mobility, or spleen deficiency with poor appetite, loose stools, and difficulty urinating.
Modern pharmacological studies show that coixenol has sedative and antipyretic effects on the central nervous system; coix seed oil inhibits muscle contraction. These effects align with traditional claims that giuliao can relieve arthralgia and relax tense muscles. Caution advised for those with spleen deficiency and difficult defecation, or pregnant women.<Bone-Strengthening and Waist-Strengthening Formula>
