Four Gentlemen Decoction
Ginseng, White Atractylodes, Poria, Roasted Licorice
Indication: Pale complexion, limb weakness, poor appetite, loose stools, pale tongue with thin white coating, weak pulse due to spleen and stomach Qi deficiency.
Function: Tonify Qi and strengthen the spleen. This is a fundamental formula for Qi tonification.
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment Qi Decoction)
Astragalus, Ginseng, White Atractylodes, Angelica, Bupleurum, Cimicifuga, Tangerine Peel, Roasted Licorice
Indication: Spleen and stomach Qi deficiency with sinking middle Qi causing fatigue, headache, aversion to cold, spontaneous sweating, thirst for warm drinks, pale face, dizziness, loose stools, chronic diarrhea, uterine prolapse, gastric ptosis, rectal prolapse, pale tongue with white coating, weak pulse.
Function: Tonify Qi and strengthen the spleen. This is the representative formula for Qi tonification and rising Yang.
Sheng Mai San (Life-Pulse Powder)
Ginseng, Ophiopogon, Schisandra
Indication: Qi and Yin injury caused by heat pathogens resulting in fatigue, excessive thirst, weak pulse; chronic cough damaging lungs with dual Qi and Yin deficiency, dry cough, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating.
Function: Tonify Qi and nourish Yin. This is a common formula for treating heat-induced Qi and Yin deficiency. Key diagnostic features include spontaneous sweating, shortness of breath, and weak pulse.
