Polygonatum Porridge
[Ingredients] 15g Polygonatum, 100g glutinous rice, a little rock sugar.
[Method] First, wash Polygonatum, remove roots and fibrous parts, crush, extract concentrated juice, strain out residue, add water and glutinous rice to cook into thin porridge. After porridge is ready, add rock sugar and simmer for 3–5 minutes.
[Usage] Twice daily, warm consumption. One course lasts 7 days.
[Effects] Nourishes yin, moistens lungs, generates fluids, quenches thirst. Suitable for diabetes or post-high fever conditions with thirst, dry mouth and tongue, persistent low-grade fever due to yin deficiency. Also useful as auxiliary dietary therapy for various types of heart disease and cardiac insufficiency.
[Commentary] Research shows Polygonatum has hypoglycemic effects and is commonly used in treating diabetes. Due to its greasy nature, those with fullness in the stomach, sticky mouth, excessive phlegm, indigestion, or thick greasy tongue coating should avoid it.
