Three Nourishing Porridges for Heat Relief and Cooling
Bitter Melon Porridge: 100 g bitter melon, 20 g rock sugar, 2 g refined salt, 100 g glutinous rice.
Prepare by removing the seeds from the bitter melon, cutting it into small cubes, and combining it with washed glutinous rice in a pot. Add sufficient water, bring to a boil over high heat, then add rock sugar and salt. Reduce heat and simmer until a thin porridge forms.
Bitter melon clears summer heat and detoxifies, and improves mental clarity—ideal for summer consumption.
Lotus Seed Porridge: 50 g lotus seeds, 100 g glutinous rice.
Cook together until lotus seeds become extremely soft. Lotus seeds clear heart fire, relieve irritability, strengthen the spleen, stop diarrhea, nourish the heart, and calm the spirit—particularly effective for insomnia caused by summer heat.
Watermelon Rind Porridge: 200 g watermelon rind, 100 g glutinous rice, 30 g sugar.
Peel off the hard outer layer of the watermelon rind, cut into small cubes, and cook with glutinous rice. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer until porridge forms. Add sugar and serve. Watermelon rind clears heat, relieves summer heat, promotes urination, and reduces edema.
