Health Tip: Drink Water When You Wake Up at Night
The body is most dehydrated at night. Yet some elderly people avoid drinking water at night due to fear of nocturnal urination. This leads to dehydration after sleep, as the body continues to lose fluids. Blood viscosity increases, metabolic waste deposits in vessels, blocking them. Thus, heart and brain vascular patients are prone to dying in the early morning.
Therefore, when elderly people feel thirsty or wake up to urinate at night, they should drink a glass of water. Drink another upon waking in the morning. Also drink water between meals—around 10 AM and 3 PM. Especially, abandon the bad habit of restricting nighttime fluid intake. This aids digestion and metabolism, keeping the body properly hydrated.
Older adults should drink 8–10 glasses of water daily (about 240 ml per glass) to meet health, wellness, and anti-aging needs. When forgetting to drink water, family members should remind them promptly.
