Common Dietary Remedies for Chronic Cough
Grind 10 grams of peeled sweet apricot kernels into paste, mix into 50 grams of washed rice, add appropriate water, boil, then simmer until soft. This formula originates from *Shi Yi Xin Jing*; take warm, twice daily, suitable for breakfast and dinner.
Pear and White Radish Formula: One whole white radish, one whole pear, one ounce of white honey, and a small amount of white pepper placed in a bowl, steam until cooked, then consume. Take twice daily.
Pork Lung and Radish Soup: 250 grams of cleaned pork lung briefly blanched in boiling water, 500 grams of radish cut into chunks, 15 grams of apricot kernels. Combine all three ingredients in a clay pot, cook until soft, add salt and other seasonings. Consume warm, eat the lung and drink the soup. Recommended 2–3 times per week, continuous for four weeks as one course.
Red Sugar, Red Date, and Ginger Drink: Mix 50 grams of red sugar, 50 grams of red dates, and 15 grams of ginger. Add three bowls of water, bring to boil. Consume hot, three times daily.
Lily Powder Porridge: 30 grams of lily powder (or 60 grams fresh lily, dried and ground into powder), wash 100 grams of rice, cook into porridge. Add lily powder and appropriate rock sugar when nearly done, then continue cooking until porridge is ready. This formula comes from *Bencao Gangmu*, suitable for breakfast and dinner, once or twice daily. Applicable for chronic bronchitis in elderly people and dry cough due to lung heat.
Pinellia Porridge: Wash 100 grams of rice, add appropriate rock sugar, cook into porridge. Add 5–10 grams of pinellia powder just before porridge is fully cooked, bring to boil. From *Zisheng Lu*, take warm, twice daily, suitable for breakfast and dinner. Applicable for cough caused by tuberculosis, emphysema, and bronchitis.
Honey and Lotus Root Powder Drink: Dissolve 30 grams of lotus root powder in a small amount of boiling water, then pour in boiling water, let sit briefly, stir in 30 grams of honey until blended. Take warm, twice daily.
