Eat Sesame for Dry Skin
Winter always leaves my skin extremely dry, and even heavy moisturizers offer little relief. My body itches, and my hands constantly peel. Are there any dietary remedies in daily life that can alleviate this issue?
Dr. Rui Lili, PhD from the Institute of Food and Nutrition, Academy of Military Medical Sciences: To address dry skin, increase intake of foods rich in unsaturated fatty acids, protein, or vitamin C. Unsaturated fatty acids are abundant in sesame and walnuts. The primary component of sebum secreted by human sebaceous glands is unsaturated fatty acids—eating more of these foods promotes sebum secretion. Protein-rich examples include soybeans and soy products. Protein is a key component of skin; increased intake supports metabolism and aids in skin repair. Vitamin C is high in kiwifruit and other fruits. It promotes synthesis of collagen—the vital component of skin—making skin more moisturized and elastic.
