Dietary Recommendations for "Three Highs" Patients

🔑 Keywords: Pharmacological Diet
People with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia—commonly referred to as the "three highs"—should pay attention to food selection in daily life.
Experts in nutrition point out that cholesterol-free foods include cornmeal, millet, brown rice, tofu, peanuts, watermelon seeds, peanut oil, soybean oil, sesame oil, sea cucumber, and egg whites. Foods containing less than 100 mg of cholesterol per 100 grams include skim milk powder, jellyfish, crucian carp, soft-shelled turtle, yellow croaker, lean beef, rabbit meat, sardines, chicken, frog meat, carp, grass carp, small white shrimp, low-fat fresh milk, and bean paste.
Diabetics should avoid all sweets such as candies, cakes, sweet breads, mooncakes, sweet beverages, jams, and ice cream. Additionally, they should limit intake of sweet potatoes, potatoes, vermicelli, and various fruits. They should choose staple foods with the lowest sugar content, such as buckwheat flour, oatmeal, sorghum flour, corn, bean flour, and miscellaneous grains. It is also advisable to quit smoking, avoid alcohol, and reduce consumption of fried foods.
For patients with the "three highs," cooking methods such as steaming, boiling, stewing, mixing, and braising are recommended. Daily salt intake should not exceed 5 grams.
