Eating Right to Protect Lungs in Autumn
Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C, E, beta-carotene, lycopene, and flavonoids: cauliflower, shepherd’s purse, carrots, mango, pumpkin, almonds, tomatoes, watermelon, purple grapes, etc.
Eat onions regularly—consume 2–3 times per week, either raw or stir-fried, about 1/3 of a medium-sized onion, due to its natural anti-inflammatory compounds.
Consume fatty fish regularly—such as salmon, sardines, tuna—which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and help reduce or prevent asthma.
Eat one apple daily—apples are rich in quercetin, which improves respiratory defense and lung function.
Eat nuts and citrus fruits—regular intake of foods rich in vitamin E and beta-cryptoxanthin, such as walnuts, sweet almonds, peaches, oranges, papayas, tangerines, provides unique antioxidant and lung-protective benefits.
