Low-Fat Diet Alleviates Pre-Menstrual Breast Tenderness
Canadian scientists recently indicated that a low-fat diet can alleviate breast tenderness before menstruation.
Researchers conducted a randomized controlled trial on 19 patients with severe cyclic breast pain lasting over five years. Ten patients, averaging 39 years old, were assigned to the low-fat group and received nutritional guidance to reduce fat intake to 15% of total calories while increasing carbohydrate intake to meet energy needs. Nine patients, averaging 36 years old, formed the control group receiving only general dietary advice. Both groups recorded daily diets and symptoms. A physician examined them at the beginning and end of the study. After six months, the low-fat group showed significant reduction in pre-menstrual breast tenderness and pain, while the control group showed no improvement. Researchers believe symptom relief may be linked to reduced lipid levels and decreased estrogen secretion following low-fat dietary intake.
Therefore, women suffering from cyclic breast pain should maintain good emotional health, follow regular routines, balance work and rest, and adopt scientific eating habits—limit high-fat foods, eat light meals, and increase intake of fresh vegetables and fruits.
