Guidelines for Tonification: Talking About Cordyceps

🔑 Keywords: Pharmacological Diet
With growing attention to health, the expensive medicinal fungus Cordyceps sinensis has become a favorite among many. Most know that after serious illness, chronic conditions, or general weakness, taking Cordyceps can effectively strengthen the body. Modern research shows Cordyceps contains various amino acids, sterols, peptides, monosaccharides, polysaccharides, vitamins, and inorganic elements. It has multiple functions including regulating immunity, lowering lipids, preventing atherosclerosis, protecting heart and brain tissues, analgesia, sedation, anti-fatigue, and inhibiting tumors. It is commonly used for lung and kidney deficiency, and insufficient vital energy. Examples include chronic bronchitis, chronic renal insufficiency, hyperlipidemia, chronic hepatitis, post-illness weakness, sexual dysfunction, and general frailty. Cordyceps is both medicinal and edible. Besides being used in prescriptions, it is primarily used for dietary therapy, tailored to individual health status:
· For anemia, erectile dysfunction, or premature ejaculation: use Cordyceps Chicken.
Preparation: Wash 30 grams of Cordyceps with water, place inside the cavity of a cleaned chicken (without feathers, internal organs, head, neck, or feet), then boil until cooked (about 1 hour). Consume the chicken, Cordyceps, and drink the broth.
· After major illness, with post-illness weakness, spontaneous sweating, night sweats, shortness of breath, or labored breathing: use Cordyceps Duck.
Preparation: Select one male duck, clean it thoroughly—remove feathers, internal organs, head, neck, and feet, and wash away blood residue. Then place 15–20 strands of Cordyceps (washed with water) into the duck’s cavity, add ginger threads, scallions, salt, pepper powder, and yellow wine as seasonings. Place in a covered container and steam until tender. Consume the meat.
· For those prone to colds, nasal allergies, or feeling weak and immunocompromised after surgery: use Cordyceps Simmered Lean Pork.
Preparation: Wash 50 grams of lean pork and 15 strands of Cordyceps with water. Place both in a stew pot, add enough cold water, steam over medium heat for 2 hours. Once warm, add a little salt for seasoning. Drink the broth and consume the Cordyceps and pork.
· For chronic cough with phlegm or hemoptysis due to long-standing asthma or tuberculosis: use Cordyceps combined with ginseng, gecko, and donkey-hide gelatin, boiled and taken orally.
(Boil longer; dissolve donkey-hide gelatin before consumption).
· For perceived kidney deficiency and insufficient essence, reduced sexual function: use Cordyceps combined with epimedium, morinda, dodder seed, and ginseng, soaked in wine and consumed.
Special Reminder
Who Should Avoid Cordyceps?
Cordyceps is still a medicine with defined usage limits. Those with heat constitution, acute high fever, hypertension or stroke patients, cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy, or infants should use with caution or avoid entirely.
