Seven Qi-Regulating Foods to Eat Regularly
Owing to stress from work, study, daily life, and interpersonal relationships, people often feel physically and mentally exhausted, lose appetite, and have poor sleep. Besides psychological adjustment, choosing tasty and qi-regulating foods becomes particularly important.
1. Radish: Excels at regulating qi and strengthening the stomach. Beneficial for those with qi stagnation, heat, and phlegm accumulation, helping clear heat and phlegm. Green radish is best; red-skinned, white-fleshed radish comes second. Best eaten raw, though those with stomach issues can drink radish soup.
2. Beer: Some people drink alcohol when angry, but this worsens health—alcohol binds qi and generates heat, potentially causing sudden blood pressure spikes and bleeding. Beer, however, has no such side effects and actually helps regulate qi and stimulate appetite, easing anger. Remember: consume in moderation, not excessively.
3. Rose Petals: Adding a few rose petals to tea helps regulate qi. Those without tea-drinking habits can brew rose petals alone.
4. Lotus Root: Helps circulate qi, strengthens spleen and stomach, and calms the mind. Best consumed boiled in water or cooked with congee.
5. Fennel: Both seeds and leaves regulate qi. Use leaves as filling or stir-fry to relieve qi stagnation, strengthen the stomach, and ease pain—especially effective for chest and abdominal distension caused by anger.
6. Hawthorn: Regulates qi, relieves pain, aids digestion, and eliminates food stagnation. Suitable for chest and abdominal distension due to food stagnation. Also effective for palpitations and arrhythmia caused by anger.
7. Areca Nut: Roasted areca fruit can be eaten directly. It regulates qi, harmonizes the stomach, relieves pain, and eliminates food stagnation.
