Six Traditional Chinese Medicine Dietary Remedies for Liver Health
One: Dampness Obstruction Type
Patients complain of bland taste, abdominal distension, edema, fatigue, white greasy tongue coating—indicating dampness invasion. Diet should be light, avoiding overly sweet or greasy foods. Choose dietary remedies that strengthen spleen, resolve dampness, and stimulate appetite.
1. Atractylodes Steamed Mandarin Fish
Ingredients: 250–500g Mandarin fish, 15g Atractylodes slices, small amount of ginger and scallions, 15g ham, 15g dried mushrooms, seasonings.
Method: Steam over high heat for 15 minutes.
2. Crucian Carp Soup
Ingredients: 500g crucian carp, 10g aged tangerine peel, 3g sand ginger, 10g betel pepper placed in a gauze bag, seasonings, scallions, ginger.
Method: Insert the gauze bag, scallions, and ginger into the fish’s belly, lightly pan-fry the fish in oil, add water, boil until the soup turns milky white, then consume in 2–3 portions.
Two: Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency Type
Patients experience hot palms and soles, night sweats, dizziness, blurred vision, weak waist and knees, red tongue with little coating. Use dietary remedies that nourish yin and supplement liver and kidney.
1. Goji Berries Steamed Whole Chicken
Ingredients: 1000g hen, 30g goji berries, small amount of seasonings.
Method: Place goji berries inside chicken cavity, add seasonings, steam over water for 2 hours, divide into 2–3 portions for consumption.
2. Goji Berry, Winter Wheat, and Minced Pork Egg Cubes
Ingredients: 10g goji berries, 30g lean pork, 5 eggs.
Method: Chop pork finely, beat eggs, steam together into small cubes. Stir-fry minced pork, goji berries, winter wheat, and egg cubes until well mixed.
Three: Liver Qi Stagnation and Spleen Deficiency Type
Patients complain of nausea, belching, poor appetite, distension in liver area, loose stools. Use dietary remedies that soothe liver and strengthen spleen.
1. Tangerine Peel Duck
Ingredients: One duck, 10g tangerine peel, 10g Chinese yam, small amount of seasonings.
Method: Cook duck thoroughly, add seasonings, tangerine peel strips, and Chinese yam, simmer for another 15 minutes, consume in 2–4 portions.
2. Plum Blossom Porridge, Rose Porridge, Coix Seed and Red Date Porridge
Method: Cook rice with water and appropriate sugar until slightly thickened, then add plum blossom, rose, or coix seed and red dates, continue cooking until porridge becomes thick and ready to eat.
