Senile cataract refers to lens opacity occurring in the elderly, with incidence increasing with age. Based on location, it is classified as cortical or nuclear. Cortical cataracts, depending on progression, have stages including initial, swelling, mature, and over-mature phases, progressing slowly. TCM attributes this condition to liver-kidney deficiency in old age, spleen qi deficiency, leading to lack of nourishment to the eyes due to impaired essence and qi, or related to heart qi deficiency and qi deficiency with fire decline—commonly seen in intellectual workers or those with high myopia developing nuclear cataracts.
Syndrome differentiation of senile cataract includes Liver-Kidney Deficiency Type, Spleen Qi Deficiency Type, and Heart Qi Deficiency Type. Patients should receive medication under medical guidance.
Eye Clarity-Removing Formula
Composed of Astragalus membranaceus, Atractylodes macrocephala, Polygala tenuifolia, Sparganium stoloniferum, Longan flesh, Jujube, Lycium barbarum, Curcuma zedoaria, Fritillaria cirrhosa, Codonopsis pilosula, Angelica sinensis, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Achyranthes bidentata, Aquilaria agalloch, Paeonia lactiflora, Magnetite, and fresh ginger. Ground into fine powder and made into pills with honey. Twice daily, 10g each time, taken with warm water. Functions include strengthening spleen and nourishing heart, regulating qi and activating blood, nourishing yin and calming liver, tonifying kidney and brightening eyes. Suitable for early to mid-stage disease.
Eye Clarity-Treating Formula
Composed of Astragalus membranaceus, Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes macrocephala, Cimicifuga heracleifolia, Pearl Mother, Cassia seed, Cicada Slough, Lycium barbarum, Alisma plantago-aquatica, Earthworm, Peach Kernel, Paeonia lactiflora, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Vaccaria segetalis, Licorice, Sparganium stoloniferum, Curcuma zedoaria, Plantain Seed, Imperata cylindrica, Rheum palmatum, Achyranthes bidentata, and Magnetite. Ground into powder and made into pills with honey. 9g each time, twice daily on an empty stomach, taken with warm water. Functions include strengthening spleen and qi, nourishing yin and tonifying kidney, calming liver and promoting diuresis, activating blood and unblocking collaterals. Suitable for non-mature stage.
Eye Clarity-Brightening Formula
Prepared from Astragalus membranaceus, Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, Chinese Yam, Lycium barbarum, Ligustrum lucidum, Schisandra chinensis, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Scrophularia ningpoensis, processed into granules. Each packet 10g, one packet twice daily, dissolved in hot water. Functions include tonifying qi and strengthening spleen, nourishing liver and kidney, clearing lungs and removing opacities. Suitable for non-mature stage.
Opacities-Removing Therapy
Ingredients: Astragalus membranaceus, Codonopsis pilosula, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Angelica sinensis, Schisandra chinensis, Lycium barbarum, Calamus rhizome, Curcuma, Polygala tenuifolia, Plantain Seed. Add appropriate amount of freshwater, simmer gently until strong aromatic scent emerges and herbs sink completely to bottom. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes. Two servings daily, heated and consumed once in morning and once in evening. Functions include calming liver, purifying qi, nourishing yin and tonifying yang. Suitable for early to mid-stage disease.
