Chinese Herbal Prescription (1)
【Formula Name】Acute Renal Failure Formula One.
【Composition】Ginseng 6g, Astragalus 30g, Prepared aconite root 10g, Atractylodes 12g, Poria 30g, Polyporus 15g, Cinnamon twig 12g, Alisma 15g, Ligusticum 15g, Salvia 30g, Safflower 15g, Rhubarb 5g, Plantain seed 15g.
【Usage】Decocted in water, warmed, and taken in divided doses.
【Therapeutic Method】Warming Yang to promote diuresis, regulating Qi and resolving stasis.
【Indications】Acute renal failure, qi and blood stagnation type. Symptoms include oliguria or anuria, generalized edema, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting, abdominal distension, palpitations, shortness of breath, coughing, dyspnea, fatigue, pale complexion. Pale tongue with white coating, deep fine and rapid pulse.
【Additions/Modifications】If hypertension is present, add Prunella 30g; avoid if hyperkalemia exists; if heart failure or acute pulmonary edema occurs, add Inula 10–20g to strengthen cardiac function and promote fluid excretion; for infection, combine with honeysuckle, forsythia, purple vetchling, coptis, etc., for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

【Formula Name】Acute Renal Failure Formula Two.
【Composition】Raw rhubarb 30g, Sophora flower 30g, Cinnamon twig 30g.
【Usage】Add 400–600ml water, decoct for about 20 minutes until reduced to 200ml. Administer 100ml via retention enema (warmed to 37–38°C), twice daily, one course lasting 3 days.
【Therapeutic Method】Clearing heat and detoxifying, purging the bowels and expelling pathogenic factors.
【Indications】Acute renal failure.
