Herbal Medicine Can Alleviate Coronary Restenosis
A patient with old inferior wall myocardial infarction experienced significant chest tightness, chest pain, and shortness of breath two years after coronary stent placement. At the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University, integrated TCM and Western medicine treatment was used. The patient spent minimal money, received only two weeks of hospitalization, and showed marked improvement in coronary perfusion. Since discharge, there has been no recurrence for three months. After coronary stent placement, approximately 25% of patients experience gradual restenosis of previously dilated vessels. Conventional treatment involves repeat intervention, often costing over 100,000 yuan. Professor Liu Kunshen, doctoral supervisor, after years of research, based on the theory that coronary restenosis results from excessive proliferation of extracellular matrix beneath the vascular endothelium, used aldosterone receptor antagonists, angiotensin II receptor antagonists to inhibit extracellular matrix proliferation, combined with TCM blood-activating and stasis-resolving herbs, and added lipid-lowering and anti-ischemic drugs. Treatment of over ten patients with post-stent restenosis yielded satisfactory results.
