Managing Chronic Gastritis Through Diet
It is reported that the rate of stomach diseases among Chinese people far exceeds the global average. Besides timely and effective treatment, diet plays a crucial role in managing chronic gastritis.
Dr. Hou Peng, Director of the Department of Gastroenterology at PLA 304 Hospital, recommends increasing nutrition by consuming high-protein and high-vitamin foods to ensure adequate supply of essential nutrients. Increase intake of high-vitamin foods and dark-colored fresh vegetables and fruits, such as leafy greens, tomatoes, eggplants, and red dates. Additionally, eat 2–3 fresh hawthorns per meal to stimulate gastric juice secretion and enhance digestive capacity.
When suffering from atrophic gastritis, drink more yogurt. The phospholipids in yogurt adhere to the stomach lining, protecting the mucosa and aiding repair of damaged tissue. Moreover, lactose in yogurt, when metabolized, produces lactic acid and glucuronic acid, increasing gastric acidity, inhibiting harmful bacteria from breaking down proteins into toxins, thus protecting the stomach from toxin damage and aiding gastritis recovery. When taking antibiotics for certain inflammations, drinking yogurt not only replenishes nutrition but also prevents antibiotic side effects. Yogurt contains abundant active bacilli, restoring balance to gut flora disrupted by antibiotics and protecting the gastric mucosa.
