Caution: Aloe Vera May Cause Miscarriage

In recent years, aloe vera has become extremely popular among women. Aloe vera yogurt, skincare products, and even dishes featuring aloe vera have become <U>beauty and skin care</U> favorites. However, despite its seemingly nutritious and healthy image, aloe vera can cause miscarriage under certain conditions.
According to research, aloe vera originates from Africa and belongs to the lily family. The two most common types are sword aloe, commonly grown in homes and effective for indigestion and poor appetite, and flat aloe, whose sap is processed and sold separately, useful for treating excessive gastric acid, gastritis, and duodenal ulcers. Aloe vera is thus nicknamed “a substitute for doctors.”
Yet, “all medicine has side effects.” According to data from the China Food Science and Technology Society, pregnant women who consume aloe vera juice may experience pelvic bleeding, potentially leading to miscarriage. For postpartum women, aloe components can enter breast milk, stimulating infants and causing diarrhea. Aloe vera itself contains toxins, with toxic doses ranging from 9–15 grams. Most people may experience nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, <U>diarrhea</U>, and hemorrhagic gastritis within 8–12 hours after ingestion.
Food hygiene authorities warn that aloe vera has toxicity and must not be used as a food ingredient without approval from health departments. Consumers should consult doctors before drinking aloe vera juice to ensure safety.
