Experts: Consume Six Liang of Rice Daily

Many urban dwellers habitually eat only one liang of rice per meal, leaving half a liang uneaten, while consuming large amounts of side dishes. At a recent seminar on sub-health among white-collar workers, Professor Fu Shanlai, Deputy Director of the Health Preservation Special Committee of the Shanghai Preventive Medicine Association, clearly stated that long-term avoidance or reduction of staple foods like rice is extremely detrimental to health.
According to Professor Fu, the main component of rice and wheat products is carbohydrates, which are both economical and directly convertible into energy nutrients. From the perspective of human body composition, 99% of the human body and its organs consist of water, and carbohydrates serve as the primary "basic raw material" required by our bodies. In a balanced diet, 50% to 60% of the total daily energy needs should come from carbohydrates. Compared to fatty meats and fish, rice is much easier to digest, and it holds an irreplaceable essential role in nutrition.
Based on the physical constitution of the Chinese population, adults should consume at least six liang of rice daily. Otherwise, long-term consumption of high-protein, high-fat, low-fiber meals increases the risk of hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Even without these conditions, sub-health may quietly affect your body. Survey data indicates that up to 90% of white-collar workers suffer from sub-health.
To recover quickly from sub-health, Professor Fu recommends correcting the habit of avoiding or reducing rice intake and improving vitamin deficiency. First, adjust dietary structure and break the bad habit of eating increasingly refined grains and decreasing rice portions. While increasing intake of animal blood, liver, and carrots, he advises each white-collar worker to consume a certain amount of vitamins daily to meet the body’s needs for healthy vitamin levels.
