Tips for Computer Users: Start Health Preservation with Liver Care
Computer users often experience dry eyes, blurred vision, general fatigue, mood instability, and menstrual irregularities. What causes these symptoms?
According to TCM theory, "The eyes receive blood to see, the feet receive blood to walk, the skin receives blood to stay moist, the bones receive blood to remain strong." If blood circulation is obstructed due to any reason, limbs won't receive adequate blood, leading to numbness. Insufficient blood supply to the limbs causes cold hands and feet. Lack of blood to the skin results in dryness.
TCM also teaches: "Prolonged eye use harms the liver, prolonged sitting harms the bones." Regular computer or book reading involves both prolonged eye use and prolonged sitting. "The liver stores blood and governs emotional release." The liver acts like a blood reservoir. If the liver is damaged, blood reserves become insufficient, leading to symptoms such as dry, sore eyes, tearing, myopia, blurred vision, calf cramps, weak waist and knees, weakness in hands, lack of finger dexterity, skin spots, mood swings, and menstrual irregularities.
"Kidneys govern bones, produce marrow, and connect to the brain." If kidneys are harmed, symptoms include cold hands and feet, neck, lumbar, and joint pain, memory decline, frequent urination, abnormal bowel movements, and endocrine disorders—indicative of reproductive and urinary system issues.
TCM states: "The clearer the gallbladder, the clearer the mind." Computer users often stay up past midnight, leading to mental fog and reduced work quality. Over time, this may cause dizziness, head fullness, headaches—especially around the temples and sides of the head—or even migraines.
TCM notes: "The liver manifests in the complexion as greenish." "The liver is the body’s largest detoxifying organ." "When we sleep, blood returns to the liver." Between 11 PM and 3 AM, the gallbladder and liver are most active. This is the optimal time for the liver to store blood and detoxify. During sleep, the liver processes toxins and redistributes clean blood throughout the body. But computer users staying up past midnight prevent blood from returning to the liver and gallbladder, so blood circulates without detoxification, causing toxins to re-enter the bloodstream. Consequently, the next day, the face may appear grayish-green.
Therefore, computer users should start health preservation by caring for the liver.
Liver care should focus on the following aspects:
1. Go to bed early—before 11 PM—to allow blood to return to the liver for detoxification.
2. Eat more green foods, since green corresponds to the liver meridian and helps nourish and protect the liver.
3. Maintain good emotions. "The liver governs anger." Emotional imbalance affects the liver, causing irritability; conversely, irritability harms the liver.
4. Avoid prolonged work in front of screens. Change positions regularly and massage your eyes. "The liver opens into the eyes." Eye fatigue directly impacts the liver.
