Don’t Risk Health with Anger—It Leads to Multiple Diseases
As the saying goes: “Laugh once, ten years younger; worry once, hair turns white.” If only hair turning white were the worst, we could use hair dye. But worry and anger cause multi-system damage, triggering various diseases.
Why Anger Causes Illness
TCM links mental-emotional activity to liver function.
When emotionally stressed or depressed, liver function becomes impaired.
The liver stores and regulates blood, crucial for regular menstruation. For women, healthy liver function is key to normal menstrual cycles.
The liver aids digestion by regulating qi, supporting spleen and stomach function. Liver qi stagnation disrupts qi flow, reducing appetite. Everyone knows: when angry, you lose appetite.
The liver influences mental state—liver qi stagnation causes irritability and emotional outbursts, sometimes leading to irrational actions.
Illnesses Caused by Anger
Menstrual Disorders: Women who are introverted or prone to depression may suppress emotions instead of expressing them. Long-term suppression leads to liver qi stagnation, disrupted meridian flow, causing cyclical breast pain, headaches, insomnia, mood swings—even amenorrhea, menorrhagia, or early menopause. Severe cases may lead to benign or malignant tumors.
Breast Conditions: Since liver meridians run along the ribs, liver qi stagnation and blood stasis directly relate to breast hyperplasia, nodules, and even cancer. Clinically, middle-aged women may present with breast lumps worsening pre-menstrually, easing post-menstrually, accompanied by irritability, rib pain, bitter mouth, irregular periods, reduced flow, dark red blood.
All these symptoms and diseases stem from emotional fluctuations. When angered by trivial matters, punishing yourself with others’ mistakes, remember: anger harms not just the mind but the body—potentially causing disease. Thus, step back—breathe deeply—maintain a healthy, happy mindset for well-being.
