Liu Fang Teng Yao Jiu
Liu Fang Teng Yao Jiu [Composition] Liu Fang Teng (root), 100g, appropriate amount of white wine
[Indications] Expel wind and dampness. Used for rheumatoid arthritis.
[Dosage and Administration] Oral. 5~15ml each time, three times daily; reduce dosage for children.
[Preparation Method] Clean the root of Liu Fang Teng with a brush to remove dust, cut into small pieces (or crush into coarse powder), place in a container, add 3/4 of the total white wine for soaking, seal tightly, filter after three days. Add an appropriate amount of white wine for a second soak, each lasting two days, filter, combine the filtrates from all three soakings, mix well, let stand for three days, filter again, add white wine to make up to 1000ml, resulting in a brownish clear liquid; 1ml equivalent to 0.1g of raw herb.

Use with caution in patients with hypertension or heart disease. Avoid acidic, cold, fishy, and bean foods. Toxic symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and suppression of respiration and heartbeat; mild cases may be treated with tea water; moderate cases require gastric lavage and injection of stimulants such as caffeine or coramine; severe cases require injection of fangji toxin or digitalis.
