Rapid Relief Decoction for Toothache

Composition:
Raw Rehmannia 30 grams, Cortex Moutan 12 grams, Gypsum 30 grams, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus 12 grams, Herba Schizonepetae 9 grams, Radix Saposhnikoviae 9 grams.
Usage Method:
Decoct twice with water, combine both decoctions evenly, divide into two doses, take twice daily. Reduce dosage for children. One dose per day.
Function:
Clear stomach fire, relieve heat toxicity, dispel wind-heat, cool blood and reduce inflammation.
Indications:
Wind-fire toothache, swollen tooth roots, periodontitis, gingival bleeding, and gum swelling or suppuration caused by dental caries.
Contraindications:
Avoid greasy, spicy, dry, and hot foods during treatment.
Common Modifications:
For upper tooth pain: add 6 grams of Coptis, 12 grams of Ophiopogon;
For lower tooth pain: add 12 grams of Anemarrhena, 12 grams of Phellodendron;
For bilateral tooth pain: add 9 grams of Atractylodes, 9 grams of Paeonia;
For right upper tooth pain: increase Rhubarb to 10 grams (added later), 9 grams of Bupleurum;
For right lower tooth pain: add 9 grams of Scutellaria, 9 grams of Platycodon;
For left upper tooth pain: add 9 grams of Bupleurum, 9 grams of Platycodon;
For severe gingival bleeding: add 12 grams of Eclipta prostrata, 12 grams of Agrimonia pilosa, 18 grams of honeysuckle;
For swollen gums with suppuration: add 60–90 grams of Dandelion, 12 grams of Forsythia.
