Home Remedies for Elderly Common Cold

🔑 Keywords: Internal Medicine · Other Types
1. Vinegar Fumigation Method: Take 100 grams of vinegar, place it on a stove to fumigate. The room will immediately fill with fragrance, and acetic acid molecules dispersed in the air kill indoor cold viruses, effectively preventing colds. During cold outbreaks, fumigate 1–2 times daily.
2. Sugar-Ginger Tea Method: Since colds are usually due to external invasion of wind-cold, symptoms often include headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, generalized joint pain, chills, and fever. For home treatment, use appropriate amounts of red sugar, fresh ginger, and black tea, boil or brew into tea, consume 1–2 times daily. This warms the body, expels cold, and provides excellent therapeutic effects against colds.
3. Inhale Steam: Fill a large teacup with boiling water, lean face over it, and perform deep breathing toward the rising steam until the water cools. Repeat several times daily—effective for treating colds, especially early-stage ones.
4. Electric Hair Dryer Therapy: At the onset of a cold, turn on the hair dryer and blow warm air directly onto the face, mainly targeting the temples, 3–4 times daily, 4–5 minutes each session. This can significantly reduce symptoms and speed up recovery.
5. Toothpaste Therapy: Suitable for mild colds. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the temples on both sides of the head, the Tian Ting point in the center of the forehead, and the Renzhong point under the nose and above the upper lip. Wait quietly for 10 minutes—symptoms will noticeably improve.
6. Wash Face with Cold Water: Begin this practice in summer and continue throughout autumn and winter to enhance adaptability. Wash your face with cold water every morning and evening. This increases facial blood circulation, improves disease resistance and cold tolerance, thus helping prevent colds.
