Ten Massage Techniques for Health Preservation

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Tuina
The Ten Massage Techniques are one of ancient China’s health preservation methods. Gentle massage of various body parts aims to promote qi flow, activate blood circulation, prevent disease, and strengthen the body.
First Technique: Circulating Vital Energy. Place right hand on the fontanelle, left hand on the occipital bone. Rotate each 36 times. Then rub palms together until warm, and circle around both eye corners 36 times.
Second Technique: Nourishing the Brain. Place both palms on the forehead (frontal region), rotate and rub gently 55 times.
Third Technique: Rubbing the Eyes. Use fingertip pads to massage around the eye sockets 36 times each. Then gently press the eyeballs 36 times. Continue until slight tears appear. Persistent practice ensures clear vision even in old age, allowing reading under lamplight.
Fourth Technique: Youthful Appearance. Rub both cheekbones with palm centers 36 times. Then gently push from the forehead down to the chin 36 times.
Fifth Technique: Brightening the Hall (Ming Tang). From the xiphoid process of the sternum to the upper abdomen (the Ming Tang area). Rotate and press the heart-stomach region with both hands, one above and one below, 36 times. Cross arms in front, massage both breasts 36 times. Then press along both sides of the spine from top to bottom 36 times. Finally, return to the Ming Tang area and press again 36 times.
Sixth Technique: Supporting the Spine (Lü). Rub both lower back areas with palms 55 times. Then strike the lower back and buttocks with hollow fists. Cross hands in front, press the Jianjing points (where fingertips meet shoulders when crossed). Press Dazhui (at the seventh cervical vertebra), and continue down the Governor Vessel points such as Shenzhu (third thoracic vertebra), Mingmen (second lumbar vertebra), all the way to Changqiang (at the tip of the coccyx, midpoint between coccyx and anus). Press each vertebra point, silently counting.
Seventh Technique: Relieving Arm Tension. Extend arms straight forward and rotate them 36 times. Then cross hands, hug shoulders, and massage shoulders 36 times. Finally, hug elbows and massage joints 36 times.
Eighth Technique: Calming the Heels. Rub knees 36 times each. Then interlock fingers and rub the heart, popliteal fossa, inner and outer ankles 55 times each. Finally, gently rub the perineal area 36 times.
Ninth Technique: Awakening. Press lightly on both ear canals 36 times. Then cover ears with hands, tap the occiput to produce “tapping heaven drum” sound 36 times. Simultaneously clench teeth up and down 36 times.
Tenth Technique: Rinsing the Spring. Gently press upper and lower gums with palms, massage tooth roots 36 times. Then rotate tongue clockwise and counterclockwise inside mouth 36 times each. Finally, clench teeth 36 times. When saliva fills the mouth, swallow slowly while mentally directing it to the dantian.
