Ear Massage for Health Benefits
“The ear is the gathering place of all major meridians.” All twelve main meridians pass through the ear. Thus, when any organ or body part becomes diseased, the corresponding reflex zone on the auricle will show changes. Regular ear massage helps unblock meridians, regulate qi and blood, balance organs, and thus prevent and treat diseases. The human body’s organs and regions are reflected on the auricle like an inverted fetus. Specific reflex zones and massage methods include:
1. The earlobe corresponds to the face. When internal fire causes toothache, ear pain, or facial boils, use both thumbs to pinch and knead the earlobes until both ears turn red and warm. Perform twice daily. Regular pinching also improves complexion and skin health.
2. The depression opposite the ear canal is called the auricular cavity, corresponding to internal organs of the chest. Stimulating this area benefits the heart, brain, lungs, and blood system. Method: Place index finger at the ear opening, thumb on the back of the ear, and pinch gently. Perform three times daily.
3. The depression above the auricular cavity is called the concha, and massaging it aids digestion and strengthens kidney and spleen functions.
4. The outer rim of the auricle corresponds to the trunk and limbs. The depression at the top of the rim is the “toe” point. Patients with neck, shoulder, waist, or leg pain should focus on massaging this area.
5. When folding the auricle toward the tragus, the upper edge is the apex. Massaging this point has fever-reducing, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and blood pressure-lowering effects.
