Massage Hands for Better Skin Tone

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Tuina
The hands contain many important acupoints, such as Laogong, Yujì, Shaofu, Hegu, and Shénmen. Professor Wei Guikang, doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stated that different acupoints correspond to various organs in the body. Regularly massaging fingers, palms, and dorsum of hands can regulate organ functions and also provide cosmetic benefits.
Professor Wei explained that Laogong Point lies at the center of the palmar crease; when the fingers are clenched, it is where the middle fingertip touches. Massaging this point clears heart fire and stomach heat, helping eliminate facial acne. Yujì Point is located at the midpoint of the first metacarpal bone on the palm side, beneath the thumb mound. It has effects of clearing heat, promoting lung function, dispersing stagnation, and moisturizing the skin. Shaofu Point lies where the little finger tip touches when the hand is clenched. It clears heart fire, promotes blood circulation, and nourishes the skin. Shénmen Point is located at the transverse crease on the ulnar side of the wrist, between the wrist and palm joint. Hegu Point lies between the first and second metacarpal bones on the dorsal side of the hand. Massaging these points enhances facial blood circulation, relieves fatigue, invigorates the spirit, and refreshes the mind.
Hand massage is very convenient and can be done frequently at home. Professor Wei suggests using the thumb to locate acupoints and tender spots, then rotating clockwise for about 15 minutes until warmth is felt. Alternatively, warm the palms by rubbing them together before massaging specific acupoints. You may also use wooden rollers or health balls to stimulate hand acupoints. He advises washing hands before massaging and applying moisturizer for lubrication; use moderate pressure and smooth movements. After massage, drink one or two glasses of water to promote metabolism.
