The Effects of Tuina on Musculoskeletal, Skin, and Surgical Disorders
(1) Tuina can activate meridians, relax muscles, promote blood and qi circulation, and relieve muscle spasms. After injury to any musculoskeletal organ, due to blocked meridians and stagnated blood and qi leading to spasms, pain, swelling, functional impairment, and numbness, tuina can unblock the flow of blood and qi, clear meridians, warm meridians to dispel cold, and alleviate symptoms.
(2) Tuina can invigorate blood circulation, resolve stasis, reduce swelling, and relieve pain.
(3) Tuina can realign dislocated tissues, release adhesions, and improve joint mobility.
(4) Tuina can eliminate dampness and wind, dispel cold, and warm meridians.
(5) Experimental studies have shown that after bilateral Achilles tendon transection in rabbits and re-suturing, tuina was applied to the left side using rubbing techniques while the right side remained untreated as control. After eight weeks, electron microscopy revealed that the tuina-treated side had more cellular components and better encapsulation of foreign bodies compared to the control side, indicating that tuina accelerates tissue repair and promotes healing.
(6) Modern experiments also show that techniques such as friction, rubbing, and kneading in tuina can remove aged epithelial cells, improve skin respiration, facilitate sebum and sweat gland secretion, and enhance skin elasticity and luster.
