Lotus Leaf Tea – A Great Aid for Weight Loss

In China, lotus leaf has long been revered as a natural slimming remedy. Both lotus root (lotus rhizome) and lotus leaf possess simple diuretic and laxative effects.
Lotus Leaf Properties
Lotus leaf comes from the aquatic perennial plant lotus (Nelumbo nucifera). Its chemical components include lotus alkaloid, citric acid, malic acid, gluconic acid, oxalic acid, succinic acid, and other alkaline compounds with antimitotic activity. Pharmacological research reveals lotus leaf has fever-reducing, antibacterial, and antispasmodic effects.
After processing, lotus leaf tastes bitter and slightly salty, has a pungent-cold nature, and serves to clear summer-heat, promote diuresis, lift yang, dispel blood stasis, and stop bleeding—effective for various conditions.
Key Tips for Maximizing Lotus Leaf Tea’s Weight-Loss Effect
Must be strong tea
The second brew yields no effect. Though multiple infusions are possible as long as color appears, only the first brew delivers weight-loss benefits.
One packet per cup
Typically, consume 3–4 packets daily, divided into 3–4 servings. For those with constipation, increase to 4 packets per day initially, split across 4 servings. Regular bowel movements greatly aid weight loss. Best consumed on an empty stomach, preferably before meals.
No need to diet
After consistent intake, natural changes in food preferences often occur—many lose desire for greasy or heavy foods.
Additionally, lotus leaf tea doesn’t require boiling. Place one packet in a teapot or large cup, pour boiling water over it. Let steep 5–6 minutes for stronger flavor. Even when cooled, effectiveness remains unchanged—ideal for chilled drinking in summer, offering enhanced taste.
