Health-Preserving Porridge for Heat Relief

In hot summers, gastrointestinal function weakens due to heat stimulation, often causing dizziness, fatigue, chest tightness, poor appetite, and even heatstroke, endangering health. To ensure normal digestive function, dietary attention must be given to nourishing and replenishing the body, enhancing resistance to heat, and preventing heatstroke—key measures for summer health preservation. Eating cooling health porridge is one such dietary adjustment.
Green Bean Porridge: Green beans are sweet and cold in nature, possessing effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, quenching thirst, relieving summer heat, and moisturizing skin. Cooking green beans with rice enhances their ability to relieve summer heat, soothe irritability, generate fluids, and detoxify.
Honeysuckle Porridge: Honeysuckle is sweet and cool, with a refreshing fragrance. Use 30g of honeysuckle, boil in water, extract concentrated juice (~150ml), then cook 50g of rice with 300ml water into thin porridge. Divide and consume twice daily warm. Ideal for wind-heat patients, headaches, red eyes, sore throat, hypertension, and coronary heart disease.
Mint Porridge: First, prepare fresh mint (30g) or dried mint (15g), boil into decoction and reserve. Cook 100g rice into porridge; add mint juice and appropriate rock sugar before porridge is fully cooked, then boil briefly. This porridge clears heat, relieves summer heat, dispels wind-heat, and clears the throat. Mint leaves are pungent and cool, fragrant and palatable.
Lotus Seed Porridge: Lotus seeds clear heart-fire, relieve irritability, strengthen spleen, and stop diarrhea. Cooking lotus seeds with rice forms lotus seed porridge, effective for insomnia due to summer heat.
Lotus Leaf Porridge: Take one fresh lotus leaf, wash and chop finely, place in a gauze bag, boil into concentrated juice (~150ml). Add 100g rice and appropriate rock sugar to 500ml water, cook into thin porridge. Consume once in morning and evening. Lotus leaf has a fragrant, slightly bitter taste, capable of clearing heat, relieving summer heat, reducing irritability, lowering blood pressure, and aiding weight loss. Combined with rice and rock sugar, it makes a delicious, refreshing remedy for heat relief.
Herba Agastache Porridge: Use 15g of agastache (double if fresh), boil in 180ml water for 2–3 minutes, filter out residue. Wash and cook 50g rice into porridge; add agastache juice when nearly done, simmer 2–3 minutes more. Consume three times daily warm. Agastache is pungent and warm, commonly used in summer. It effectively prevents and treats heatstroke, high fever, indigestion, cold-chest tightness, vomiting, and diarrhea.
