Chinese Herbal Formula for Intestinal Obstruction Due to Roundworms

【Diagnostic Pattern】Accumulation of worms obstructing the intestines, causing stagnation and blockage.
【Treatment Principle】Purgative action to clear the bowels, calming worms and relieving pain.
【Formula Name】Umei Chengqi Decoction.
【Composition】Rhubarb 9–15 grams (added last), Mirabilite 6–9 grams (dissolved), Magnolia bark 6 grams, Citrus fruit peel 6 grams, Prunus mume 6 grams, Sichuan pepper 2 grams, Coptis 3 grams.
【Usage】Decocted and taken orally, one dose daily, twice daily. If no improvement or no bowel movement occurs within 4–6 hours after first dose, a second dose may be given. Can also be administered as enema: one dose decocted to yield 300–500 ml; administer 300 ml for children under 5 years, 500 ml for those over 5. For patients with mild vomiting and no significant bloating who can cooperate, oral intake suffices. Otherwise, gastric tube insertion is required—first for gastrointestinal decompression, second to facilitate administration of herbal medicine.
