Symptoms and Secret Formulas for Bone Tuberculosis
Disease Description
Bone and joint tuberculosis is a secondary lesion, part of the systemic condition. 95% originate from pulmonary and pleural foci, while about 5% arise from gastrointestinal tract and lymphatic system. Its characteristics: spinal involvement is most common, with lumbar spine tuberculosis being most frequent due to heavy load and high mobility. Incidence increases with younger age; children under 10 have higher rates. Onset is slow, early symptoms are minimal, sometimes presenting with tidal fever, night sweats, afternoon low-grade fever, and mental fatigue. However, when simple tuberculosis suddenly ruptures into synovial membrane or bone into joint cavity forming pan-articular tuberculosis, it may present clinical symptoms similar to acute arthritis. Traditional Chinese Medicine refers to this disease as "bone consumption." The cold abscess formed can spread widely; after rupture, wounds heal slowly, often discharging thin pus resembling phlegm. Abscesses located on both sides of the lumbar vertebrae are called "Shen Yu Xu Tan" (Kidney Gate Deficient Phlegm); those at the hip region are "Fu Gu Tan" (Attached Bone Phlegm); those at the knee are "He Xi Tan" (Crane Knee Phlegm); those at the ankle are "Chuan Wang Tan" (Ankle Penetrating Phlegm).
