Formula Name: Acupuncture Point Disinfection Formula
【Function & Indications】Clears heat from the spleen and stomach. Treats hordeolum and recurrent stubborn hordeolum.
【Composition】Mutong 3g, Huashi 15g, Huangqin 9g, Lianqiao 12g, Qu Mai 15g, Dahuang (added last) 6g, Chan Yi 4g, Sheng Gancao 6g. Decoct and take orally.
【Differential Diagnosis & Modifications】After inflammation subsides or nears resolution, to prevent recurrence, add tonifying herbs such as Huangqi, Dangshen, Huai Shan Yao, and Baizhu.
【Clinical Efficacy】Treated 28 cases, all recurrent ones. After taking 10–14 doses, all improved; 10 cases showed marked improvement (no recurrence after medication), 17 showed progress (recurrence frequency significantly reduced), only 1 case ineffective.

【Comment】Recurrent hordeolum often relates to insufficient sleep and refractive errors. This formula clears heart fire to aid sleep, and based on the saying “all itching, pain, and sores belong to heart (fire),” treats from heart and spleen. During recovery, emphasis is placed on regulating spleen and stomach; strengthening spleen promotes digestion of food and fluids, generating essence and blood to nourish the eyes and heart, thus calming heart qi and extinguishing fire. Therefore, treating this condition by focusing on heart and spleen is logical.
