Various Treatments for Excessive Menstrual Flow
Excessive menstruation refers to significantly increased menstrual volume compared to previous patterns, while the cycle remains basically normal. This condition primarily results from qi deficiency impairing control, or blood heat causing uncontrolled dispersion, leading to instability of Chong and Ren vessels and uncontrollable bleeding during menstruation. Additionally, there are cases due to internal blood stasis causing excessive flow.
[Formula One]
100 grams of Chinese chives, 120 grams of lamb liver. Wash and chop chives, slice lamb liver, stir-fry over open flame in iron wok until cooked, then consume.
This formula is suitable for excessive menstruation due to qi deficiency.
[Formula Two]
500 grams of lamb, 15 grams each of Angelica sinensis and fresh rehmannia, 10 grams of dried ginger. Wash lamb, cut into chunks, place in clay pot with cleaned herbs, soy sauce, salt, sugar, cooking wine, and sufficient water, braise until meat is tender.
This formula is suitable for excessive menstruation caused by qi deficiency.
[Formula Three]
30 grams of Astragalus membranaceus, 100 grams of glutinous rice. First boil Astragalus, remove residue, add rice, cook into porridge, consume on an empty stomach.

[Formula Four]
15–30 grams of cockscomb flower, 2 eggs. Add two bowls of water, boil together. When eggs are cooked, peel them, return to pot and boil down to one bowl of liquid. Eat eggs and drink broth, once daily, continue for 3–4 days.

[Formula Five]
30 grams each of fresh rehmannia, root bark of lycium, 15 grams each of radix scrophulariae, ophiopogon tuber, white peony root, 30 grams of donkey-hide gelatin, 40 milliliters of raw honey. Boil first five herbs to obtain concentrated juice of 300 milliliters. Melt donkey-hide gelatin in 60 milliliters of warm water, mix into the decoction, add raw honey, gently heat over low flame, cool, store in bottle. Take 20 milliliters each time, three times daily.

[Formula Six]
500 grams of broad bean flowers, a small amount of rock sugar.
Wash broad bean flowers, chop finely; prepare tincture via distillation method (2000 grams from dry material, 1000 grams from fresh); or mix with rock sugar, stir well, store in bottle. Take 120 grams each time, twice daily, warm consumption.
This formula treats excessive menstruation due to blood heat.
[Formula Seven]
6 grams of fresh rehmannia, 10 grams of motherwort, 200 milliliters of rice wine. Pour rice wine into ceramic jar (or cup), add fresh rehmannia and motherwort, steam over water for 20 minutes. Take 50 milliliters each time, twice daily.

120 grams of mustard greens, appropriate honey. Wash mustard greens, chop finely, slightly crush, extract juice, mix with honey, stir evenly. Take 2–4 spoonfuls each time.

24 grams of Angelica sinensis, 15 grams each of red peony root and charcoal-fried rehmannia, 9 grams each of Ligusticum chuanxiong, peach kernel, safflower, 30 grams of motherwort, 12 grams of eupatorium, 10 grams of citrus aurantium. Decoct and take orally. Begin taking before menstruation, one dose per day, stop after 1–3 doses.
