Various Treatments for Pregnancy-related Irritability
Pregnancy-related irritability
Pregnancy-related irritability refers to symptoms such as mental agitation, depression, or irritability experienced by pregnant women during pregnancy. The underlying cause is internal heat affecting the heart, but clinically it may differ between yin deficiency and phlegm-fire. The following are main clinical remedies:
[Formula One]
Raw rehmannia root 30g, sour jujube seed 30g, glutinous rice 100g. Crush the jujube seeds finely, decoct with water to extract 100ml of juice; decoct raw rehmannia root to obtain another 100ml of juice; wash glutinous rice, cook into porridge, add the medicinal juices, then boil once more. Take warm twice daily, morning and evening.
This formula applies to pregnancy-related irritability caused by yin deficiency.
[Formula Two]
Coptis 5g, raw peony root 10g, donkey-hide gelatin 10g, fresh eggs 2 pieces. Decoct first two ingredients with water to extract juice; dissolve donkey-hide gelatin in 30ml boiling water; combine both juices, stir in egg yolks, boil until heated through. Take one dose before bedtime each night.

[Formula Three]
Large sea fig 500g, tangerine peel 500g, rock sugar 100g, licorice 50g. Boil large sea fig and licorice together to make tea; remove peel and seeds from tangerines, place in small pot, add 50g rock sugar, marinate for one day until flesh is fully soaked in sugar; add appropriate amount of water, simmer gently until syrup thickens, then stop heating. Press each tangerine segment into cakes, mix with 50g rock sugar, spread on tray, dry in ventilated shade, store in bottle. Take 5–8 segments each time, dissolve in prepared large sea fig-licorice tea, take three times daily.
