Formula for Endometriosis – Wen Gong San Jie Fang
Name of Formula: Wen Gong San Jie Fang
【Function and Indications】
Function: Warm meridians, promote blood circulation, dispel stasis, and dissolve nodules. Indicated for endometriosis presenting with severe dysmenorrhea, rectal heaviness, etc.
【Prescription Composition】
Danggui 9g, Red Peony Root 9g, Ligusticum chuanxiong 9g, Corydalis yanhusuo 9g, Peach Kernel 9g, Safflower 9g, Myrrha 6–9g, Raw Cattail Pollen 12g, Dried Ginger 4.5g, Fennel Seed 5g, Cinnamon Bark 3g. Decoct and take orally.
【Differential Diagnosis and Modifications】
If severe abdominal pain during menstruation, add Flower Stone 30g, Dragon’s Blood 6–9g; orally take 0.75g Qili Powder or 0.5g Yunnan Baiyao twice daily. During non-menstrual period, add Sea Algae 9g, Kelp 9g, Prunella vulgaris 9g, Oyster Shell 30g. For qi deficiency, add Astragalus 12g, Codonopsis 12g. For blood stasis with heat, remove cinnamon bark, dried ginger, fennel seed; add Cortex Moutan 9g, Honeysuckle Vine 15g, Houttuynia cordata 15g. For nausea, add Evodia rutaecarpa 4.5g. Hospitalized patients may receive intravenous infusion of Salvia miltiorrhiza injection at 8 vials daily (equivalent to 24g crude drug). For lesions confined to the rectouterine pouch, the decoction may be used for rectal enema or 40ml of decoction applied to electrode plate for iontophoresis therapy.
【Clinical Efficacy】
All 12 patients received hospital treatment with this formula. Three achieved marked improvement (symptoms disappeared or reduced by more than half, mass or nodule softened, tenderness vanished); five were effective (symptoms relieved, physical signs unchanged); four were ineffective (no change in symptoms or signs). Overall effective rate: 66.67%.

【Comment】
Wang’s observation indicated no significant correlation between efficacy and disease duration. The formula showed better results in exogenous-type endometriosis compared to endogenous or mixed types.<Uterus>
