Secret Formula for Menopausal Syndrome
Menopausal syndrome refers to a cluster of symptoms occurring in women around menopause due to declining ovarian function causing endocrine imbalance and autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Symptoms include hot flashes, facial flushing (sensation of heat rushing upward, causing restlessness and red face), sweating, irritability, depression, insomnia, mood swings, unexplained crying or laughing, resembling psychiatric disorders. The condition arises because, as women reach age seven sevens (49 years), kidney qi gradually declines, Chong and Ren channels become deficient, essence and blood are insufficient, or due to emotional depression leading to hidden depletion of yin blood, resulting in imbalance of kidney yin and yang, subsequently affecting heart, liver, and spleen functions, manifesting as various signs of menopausal syndrome. [Formula One] Bupleurum chinense 6g, Dragon Bone 30g, Oyster Shell 30g, Rhubarb (raw), Astragalus membranaceus, Cinnamomum cassia (prepared), Pinellia ternata (processed) each 9g, Fried Glycyrrhiza uralensis 3g. Decoct and take orally, one dose daily, divided into two doses. This formula is from Zhang Qi of Heilongjiang Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is effective for treating menopausal syndrome.
[Formula Two] Epimedium sagittatum 10g, Anemarrhena asphodeloides 10g, Morinda officinalis 10g, Angelica sinensis 6g, Morinda officinalis 15g, brown sugar 30g, Phellodendron amurense bark 10g, white sugar 30g. Boil herbs to extract liquid, filter out residue, then add brown and white sugars to the filtrate and boil for 1–2 minutes. Take once daily in morning and evening, 30–50ml each time. This formula treats menopausal syndrome.
[Formula Three] Floating wheat 10g, Fried Glycyrrhiza uralensis 10g, 10 jujubes. First, decoct fried glycyrrhiza to obtain juice, set aside. Then combine fried glycyrrhiza, floating wheat, and jujubes, boil with vigorous fire until boiling, then simmer gently until wheat becomes soft like porridge. Consume one bowl empty stomach in morning and evening daily. This formula treats menopausal syndrome in women.
[Formula Four] Scrophularia ningpoensis 10g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 10g, Codonopsis pilosula 10g, Tian Dong 5g, Mai Dong 5g, raw Rehmannia glutinosa 12g, cooked Rehmannia glutinosa 12g, Platycladi seed 10g, Ziziphus jujuba seed 10g, Polygala tenuifolia 5g, Angelica sinensis 3g, Poria cocos 10g, floating wheat 10g, White Peony Root 10g, Corydalis yanhusuo 6g, Dragon Bone 15g, Oyster Shell 15g, Schisandra chinensis 5g, Platycodon grandiflorum 5g. Decoct with clear water, one dose daily, decoct twice per dose, divide into morning and evening warm servings. One course consists of 16 doses. This formula by Liang Jianbo is suitable for symptoms arising from kidney yin deficiency unable to nourish the heart, or pre-existing heart qi deficiency unable to descend, resulting in disharmony between heart and kidney.
[Formula Five] Coptis chinensis 3g, Ophiopogon japonicus 9g, White Peony Root 9g, Dictamnus dasycarpus 9g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 9g, Dragon Bone 15g, Ziziphus jujuba seed 9g. Take decoction daily, 5 doses per day, each dose decocted twice, warm servings in morning and evening. Continuous use for one month constitutes one course. [Formula Six] Curcuma zedoaria 10g, Rhizoma Sparganii 10g, Curcuma aromatica 10g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 30g, Rhubarb (raw) 10g, Cistanche deserticola 10g, Morinda officinalis 10g.
