Male infertility
Male infertility refers to infertility caused by anatomical or physiological abnormalities in male reproductive organs. Numerous causes exist, such as sexual dysfunction leading to infertility—common types include impotence, premature ejaculation, and anejaculation. Also, abnormal semen can cause infertility, including azoospermia, oligospermia, non-liquefaction of semen, excessive dead sperm, and low semen volume. Additionally, congenital or acquired structural diseases of reproductive organs, psychological factors, general health status, and sexual habits can all lead to male infertility. Traditional Chinese medicine has accumulated numerous effective folk remedies for treating male infertility, mainly as follows.
[Formula One]
Dog testicle 1 piece, garlic seed 15 grams, epimedium herb, schisandra fruit each 10 grams; dodder seed 20 grams, psoralea fruit 12 grams, silkworm pupa 30 grams, hovenia seed, raw Chinese yam each 15 grams, plantain seed (wrapped) 9 grams, salted anemarrhena and phellodendron each 9 grams, whole angelica root 12 grams. Decoct in water, take one dose daily, divided into two servings.
[Formula Two]
Goji berries, dodder seed, schisandra fruit, hovenia seed, plantain seed (wrapped) each 9 grams, ginseng 15 grams, white atractylodes, poria cocos, epimedium herb each 9 grams, eucommia bark 12 grams, angelica root 9 grams, licorice root 6 grams. Decoct in water, take one dose daily.

[Formula Three]
Anemarrhena rhizome, phellodendron bark each 9 grams, raw and cooked rehmannia root each 12 grams, red and white peony root each 9 grams, salvia root 30 grams, epimedium herb 15 grams, moutan bark, plantain seed (wrapped) each 9 grams, honeysuckle 30 grams, raw licorice root 6 grams. Decoct in water, take one dose daily, twice a day.
This formula applies to male infertility caused by non-liquefaction of semen.
[Formula Four]
Goji berries, hovenia seed each 30 grams, processed aconite root 24 grams, epimedium herb, dodder seed, fried licorice root, Chinese yam, psoralea fruit each 30 grams, dog testicle 1 piece, epimedium herb, horny goat weed each 30 grams, schisandra fruit 15 grams, cornus fruit 9 grams, garlic seed 15 grams, purple river crane, morinda officinalis root each 30 grams, cinnamon twig 24 grams, deer tendon 1 piece, cooked rehmannia root 30 grams, cardamom seed 15 grams. All herbs ground into fine powder, made into water pills. Take 9 grams each time, twice daily.

[Formula Five]
Anemarrhena rhizome, phellodendron bark each 9 grams, raw and cooked rehmannia root each 15 grams, Chinese yam, cornus fruit each 12 grams, moutan bark, alisma rhizome, poria cocos each 9 grams, raw licorice root 6 grams. Decoct in water, take one dose daily.
This formula comes from Issue 2 of Journal of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1979, suitable for kidney yin scorched by fire, excessive fire, strong erection but inability to ejaculate.
[Formula Six]
Centipede 18 grams, angelica root, white peony root, licorice root each 60 grams. First dry and grind angelica root, white peony root, and licorice root into fine powder through a sieve of 90–120 mesh. Then finely grind centipede, mix both powders evenly. Take half to one packet each time, twice daily, on empty stomach with white wine or yellow wine. One course lasts 15 days. Avoid raw/cold food and emotional stress.

This formula comes from Heilongjiang Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Issue 2, 1982. Suitable for infertility caused by frequent sensations of distension, dull pain, and cramping in lower abdomen and scrotum during intercourse, preventing ejaculation.

Calcined dragon bone, calcined oyster shell each 15 grams, schisandra fruit 6 grams, poria cocos 9 grams, silkworm pupa 6 grams, calcined white kaolin, lotus seed, dodder seed, garlic seed, golden plum each 9 grams. Decoct in water, take one dose daily, twice daily.
This formula comes from "Male Infertility," suitable for infertility due to weak kidney qi, premature ejaculation, nocturnal emission, and fatigue.

Houttuynia herb 20 grams, celandine herb, poria cocos (dried) each 15 grams, lycopodium herb 12 grams, plantain herb 15 grams, inula flower 10 grams, chinquapin seed, curcuma root each 12 grams, salvia root 15 grams, moutan bark 10 grams, motherwort 15 grams, cistanche cactus 12 grams, Ligustrum fruit, ophiopogon tuber each 10 grams, raw licorice root 8 grams. Decoct in water, take one dose daily, twice daily.
