Simple External Treatment Methods for Pediatric Enuresis
Enuresis, commonly known as bedwetting, refers to involuntary urination during sleep without awareness, with recognition only upon waking. It is more common in children aged 5–15, and generally not considered pathological before age 5. Although enuresis is not a serious illness, it brings many inconveniences to family life and affects the mental and physical health of the child. Below are some simple and effective external treatment methods for reference.
1. Crush 7 green onions, mix with 3 g sulfur powder into a paste, apply to the navel, fix with gauze. Replace every 2 days. Generally cures after 5–6 applications.
2. Equal parts of gallnut and cinnamon, grind into fine powder, mix evenly with chopped green onion juice, apply to the navel, fix with gauze. Replace every 2 days.
3. Gallnut 3 g, Fo-ti 3 g, both ground into fine powder, mix with vinegar, apply to navel, cover with gauze. Change medication every night, continue for 3–5 nights.
4. Grate 30 g fresh ginger into paste, add 6 g processed aconite root, 12 g psoralea seed, grind into fine powder, mix into ointment, apply to navel, cover with gauze, secure with tape. Replace every 5 days. Cure after 2–9 applications.
5. Use 2 parts ephedra, 1 part yizhi ren, 1 part cinnamon, grind into fine powder, store in ceramic or glass container, keep sealed. Each time take 3 g, mix with a little vinegar into a cake, apply to soles of feet, secure with tape. Remove after 36 hours, wait 6–12 hours before reapplying. After 3 applications, change to once weekly for 2 weeks to consolidate effect.
6. Oyster shell 6 g, dried mugwort leaf 15 g, hundred-part herb 9 g, Sichuan pepper 6 g, all ground into fine powder, pack into cloth bag. Alternatively, use 10 cloves of male cardamom, 3 star anise, 3 longan kernels, 10 g yizhi ren, grind into fine powder, pack into cloth bag. The prepared bag can be tied around the child’s abdomen, replace every 5–7 days until fully cured.
7. Dogwood 30 g, Epimedium 30 g, Ligustrum 30 g, Ginseng 20 g, Poria 20 g, Licorice 5 g. Decoct and use for foot bath—first fumigate, then wash. Each session lasts 15–30 minutes, once nightly, can be continued for several nights.<Enuresis>
