Chinese Herbal Prescription (I)
【Formula Name】Scarlet Fever Formula I.
【Composition】Isatis root 10g, raw gypsum 18g, bamboo leaf 3g, red peony root 5g, moutan bark 3g, reed rhizome 10g, raw rehmannia 12g, honeysuckle 10g, forsythia 10g, great burdock seed 3g, scrophularia 6g.
【Usage】Decoct in water, warm and take in divided doses. 【Treatment Principle】Clear heat and detoxify, purge fire and nourish yin.
【Indications】Scarlet fever. Rash already erupted, still high fever, thirst, red swollen throat with pain, visible necrotic debris attached, occasional delirium, red or purplish tongue with sharp protrusions, thick yellow coating on central part of tongue, rapid and forceful pulse.

Chinese Herbal Prescription (II)
【Formula Name】Scarlet Fever Formula II.
【Composition】Forsythia 15g, honeysuckle 15g, chrysanthemum 20g, great burdock seed 10g, reed rhizome 15g, coptis 10g, raw rehmannia 20g, scrophularia 15g, ophiopogon 15g, bamboo茹 15g, gardenia 10g. 【Usage】Decoct in water, take every 5 hours; can be continuously administered until rash fully erupts and heat subsides.
【Treatment Principle】Clear heat and detoxify, promote eruption of rash.
【Indications】Languishing sore throat with petechiae. The rash spots are indistinctly demarcated, merging into patches, especially prominent on chest and back, while the perioral area appears gray-white without rash. Accompanied by high fever, impaired consciousness, delirium, deafness, agitation, dry vomiting, insomnia, dry mouth preferring cold drinks, rapid and forceful pulse, sharp protrusions on tongue, dark greasy coating, dry black tongue resembling glue.
【Additions】Do not use purgatives if rash has not yet erupted; if severe constipation occurs, add rhubarb 10g; once bowel movement is relieved, discontinue rhubarb. If combined with Buffalo-bezoar An Gong Pill 1–2 pills, dissolved in cool yellow wine and taken with decoction, effect is enhanced.
【Note】Languishing sore throat with petechiae is also known as epidemic sore throat; it spreads rapidly throughout communities; this condition arises from unstable seasonal changes, foul and turbid air generating warm toxins that invade the lung and stomach through mouth and nose, causing heat-toxin accumulation in the qi level and upward attack to the throat.
