10 grams of licorice root, 5 jujubes, 10 grams of wheat. Soak the three ingredients in cold water, then simmer over low heat for half an hour per decoction. Perform two decoctions and combine the liquids. Take twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, drink the broth and eat the jujubes.
This formula primarily uses cool and sweet wheat to nourish heart yin and heart qi, thus calming the spirit; supplemented by the sweet and neutral licorice root to tonify the spleen and stomach, thereby nourishing heart qi; and the sweet and warm jujubes to strengthen the spleen, boost qi, soothe the liver, and moisten dryness. Together, these three ingredients balance warmth and coolness, combining tonification with clearing, providing sweet and moist nourishment while moderating dryness and relieving tension.
According to reports in the *Journal of the Japan Society of Oriental Medicine*, this decoction can inhibit abnormal excitement of the brain nerves, normalize hypersensitive states of the nervous system, and reduce cerebral excitability, helping individuals enter a sleep state more easily.
It is suitable for all cases caused by insufficient heart qi, yin deficiency, blood insufficiency, and stagnant liver qi, presenting symptoms such as insomnia with night sweats, mental confusion, irritability, and emotional instability with a tendency to weep.
